dovecot-auth is currently untested, and unfinished.  Do you know Python?  ;)

I think, unless you can finish writing dovecot-auth, you'll have to use mysql.

I merged his work into the current head.

That question is one of the reasons dovecot-auth isn't finished yet :)
I haven't looked into it enough to know which does what.
